Centre stand

Sorry if this is in the wrong board.

I'm trying to fit a centre stand to my 2007 Mk1. Got the exhaust silencers off with no trouble, which was a pleasant surprise. However, I cannot get the centre stand into position. I think the problem, ironically enough, is that I don't have the bike on a stand (other than the side stand). I need a little extra height to get the stand into position. Can anybody suggest a safe way I can raise the bike maybe 200mm or does anybody have a paddock stand I could borrow for a couple of hours?

I'm assuming here the bike didn't have a centre stand before. Make sure you have the correct centre stand, the centre stand for the 2008 to 2009 SC58 is a H profile with a bar across the top. The facelift SC64 centre stand is just an H profile. You will also need the correct left silencer with the cut for the centre stand foot, the pivot bolt, M6 flange bolt and the two springs.

Thank you for a quick reply. I've actually got a more interesting problem now.

I managed to get the stand in the correct position by a combination of loosening the exhaust collector box mounting bolt and brute force and ignorance, and was feeling all good about everything until I fitted the left silencer heat shield, the one with the notch. The foot bar misses the notch by a couple of inches, so the stand doesn't retract fully with the heat shield in place. Clearly something is wrong, but I can't see what. I was going to come back to this forum to ask if there might be different versions of the stand or the shield, and you seem to suggest in your reply that this might indeed be the case. My bike is on 07 model, non-ABS. I didn't take a picture of the stand before fitting it, but it was more of an A shape than an H. I'll try getting pictures to see if I can identify which stand I've got. I'm not going to be best pleased if I've bought the wrong one.

I'm thinking you either have the silencers not fully pushed onto the collector box or you've mounted the silencer bracket outside the frame lug instead of inside the frame lug.

It's currently paused, as I've had Covid so not able to get out to continue the work. However, your post was spot on; I had installed the silencer brackets on the wrong side of the mounting spacers. Thank you ever so much for pointing that out; I might never have spotted it. I'm 95% sure it was like that was before I took them off, but maybe I introduced the fault. I'm currently waiting for new pattern-part packing/gaskets to attach the silencers, because the centre stand took a chunk out of the left-hand side one, and some high-temperature RTV (I've been reading a good few of your posts). Once they come I will reattach the silencers and hopefully the new-to-this-bike main stand will line up with the heat shield notch.

On another subject, I'm hoping to wire up a sat nav this weekend by implementing the accessories wiring with a relay that is on this forum. I'm more competent with electronics than I am with exhausts, so hopefully this little project will go smoother.

I reattached the exhaust silencers with the brackets on the correct side of the bolts, and it is a much better fit, although the centre stand still catches on the edge of the notch on the heat shield, but only very slightly. I've tried adjusting everything so it misses, but I'm already at the end of what adjustment there is, so I'm just going to live with it.

Many thanks for the tip about the possibility of mounting the silencer bracket wrongly. That was a crucial tip for me.
