cbf 1000 '07 coolant capacity
« on: 13 May, 2019, 10:36:06 AM »
I 've just changed the coolant and only 2 litres came out, when the  capacity should be 2.7. I flushed through several times, wobbled the bike to try and release any trapped air but that was all I could get. The old fluid was as clean as the new stuff and could only get 2 litres in . The bike has done 23k miles of which I have done 11k and not had any overheating problems.
Any suggestions as to what is going on anybody ?
Thanks for any advice.

You never get all the coolant out (of any engine).

Two out of (nearly) three ain't bad (as the song goes).
Only do it right - no bodging please.   Keeper of the failed stator list.   John.

Thanks for the response, the reservoir amount was on top of the 2 litres at about 300ml. If one can't get out 700ml so be it, but sounds like a lot to me.

cooling systems can get airlocked.
If you have not already done this i would let the bike
idle until it gets hot enough for the fan to cut in let it run till the
fan cuts out then let it cool down and recheck the level in the rad and the
reservoir
.Also keep an eye on the overheat light in case the fan does'nt work
