Bridgestone BT0-23's

That's what was on there when I got it and they've performed well in the wet, dry & twistys and I'm getting 10,000+ miles from a tyre. Just replaced the rear after a 1,000 mile sortie around South Wales, it still had 2 mm of tread on it after 10,500 miles.

Metzlers Z8s - a full set plus the last one was just a rear.

I'm considering renewing them (both) whilst over-wintering the bike (and servicing time).

The interacts may not last too long but feel awesome when new (as does any new rubber), I like the way the work and they aren't expensive (last time anyway).

You know if you want to find "the best tyre" for the biffer it will come after the search for the best oil !!  (don't).

Over 7 years, PR2,s (Good in the wet, but scalloped on the front tyre very easily; PR3s (one set), better; two sets of PR4s, backs of confidence n the wet, and fitted a third set before handing over to my son. Got a BMW F800GT fitted with new tyres (can't remember, but think they were Metzlers). They scared me silly in the wet and got PR4s, after only a couple of thousand miles. Will get the latest Michelin offers when I need them!

I have just changed from Bridgestone 30 Evo's and got some Michelin PR4's and only done 25 miles on them but they seemed good.Nothing wrong with the Bridgestones did what they were supposed to do and quite good on a spirited breakfast run but just fancied a change.I got the PR4's for £190 so not bad on the price.

I currently have a pair of road pilot 5s on my bike.Only fitted a few months ago on a great introductory price offer at our local bike shop, they seem just as good as the 4s that were on there before but have different technology for the centre of the tyre and the sides. They just give me total confidence in the wet where the Bridgestones didn't.

I like the tyres but they take 3+ miles before they warm up properly, the bike can be a bit slippery for the first few miles in cold, wet weather.   :190:

I use Bridgestone T31 tyres om my Mk2. I think they suit the bike ,I've done 6000 miles on mine and there's still a bit of wear in them. I use the bike mainly for weekends away and a 2 week holiday every year two up.

Currently on Avon Storm 3D X-M fitted last year, for £150 quid.

Prior to that I had Pilot 4's on, which just as Rev Ken says, scalloped on the front, and was squaring off on the rear after about 4000 miles.

in GR we prefer sport tires because the asphalt is a mess, the st tires are slipping out

BT016 Pro are a common replacement, vfm low budget tire and runs well for the most of the uses

Great tyre, but they scallop quite easily on the front tyre. PR4s, better wear patterns and even better in the wet.
'5's so far outstanding. lighter steering, best wet weather grip of any tyre I've ever ridden. I THINK I will get a longer life and they aren't 'flatting' so far.

Not currently doing much mileage but will definitely use the latest PRs when mine are worn out  :028:

Pirelli Angel ST's

Really good tyres in dry and wet and cheap compared to some sets.

10,000+    :005:
Someone isn't trying or they were well shot.

By way of an update (if anyone is still asking); my stead is currently wearing a pair of Maxxis MA-3DS - not that I expect them to last much longer than the Z8s.  So far, pretty good.

Must be so squared off, were you at the point of not needing your sidestand? Bike just stood up on its own?   :084:
Brilliant.  :008:

Iím considering the Avon Trailrider tyres. Aggressive, look good on the bike, excellent handling in dry and wet conditions, minor off-road capability, but quite pricey.

My rear Pilot Road 2 tyre is under restriction due to a screw and a temporary puncture repair with one of these:

Hopefully one day a tyre will come along that will deal with diesel spills, screws and nails.

Just a heads up about eBay offering 15% off from selected sellers until 8th October. Thereís quite a few biker shops participating with loads of gear as well as tyres. At the moment thereís Metzeler Roadtec 01, Pilot Road 2ís and 5ís, Bridgestone BT-023, Pirelli Angel GT II and a few others for tyre sizes 160/60/17 and 120/70/17.

I have had Dunlop Roadsmart 3s on my Mk2 for more than 2 years now and 40,000km. On my second set, but they have long life with great grip. Have toured all over Ireland with them & commute daily 👍😃

Yeah I think that bike is a Kawasaki Versys, sort of the same as a Biffer. I posted it to show the tyres and thread in action.

Bridgestone's were the original fitment. They were ok, but I found the front was a bit vague. Changed to Michelin Pilot 4's, amazing grip feed back, wet or dry, excellent mileage, really suited the bike, and didn't square off like the Bridgestone's. I was nearer the edges of the tyre with the Pilot4's than the Bridgestone's without even trying.

Now have Pilot 2's, because Pilot 4's could not be sourced due to lockdown, could have had 5's but they were about £50 dearer. I thought I would try the Pilot 2's as there were good reports on the Forum. They are ok, but not as good as Pilot 4's. I find Pilot 2's very hard as well, I had to alter the rear suspension to a softer setting due to this. So I assume the sidewalls are not as flexible as the 4's. Next change will be 4's or even 5's if the price becomes sensible, which usually happens after a new model tyre is released.

Just put another set of Bridgestone BT0-23's on, I ride in all weather and can't fault them, good price and I got over 8.5k from the old pair.  :001:

MK1 (08)
Trying out Avon Storm 3D, done 5000 miles so far on them and still lots of tread on them, very good in the wet. Since bike being new have had Michelin PR2s, PR3s, PR4s and Road 5s. I am going to stick with the Avon. :152:

I have ridden all sorts of bikes over the years and find tyres are like oil  :015: :015: depends on what magazines you read and who your idol is !  Like i ride a ducati 916  just like carl fogarty so i use michelin rubber and castrol oil etc etc get my drift !!

Now lets get to the real world we dont all ride £20,000 bikes we don`t all earn £50k  some of us ride 20 year old bikes (probably better than the modern day power rangers) so we need 20 year old tyres that are suited to the bike !
Yes tyres are suited to bikes so putting modern day rubber on older bikes won`t necessercelary make it handle like a GP bike

So maxxis ST touring tyres are what i`m trying ??  yeah good enough for stalker walker   fitted and first ride in the wet to scrub in  hmmm well yeah a twitch here and there like all new rubber but then ang on a minute things are settling in yeah goes where i point it stops when i hit the brakes  let you all know how things progress :028:

Currently on Avon Storm 3D XM's, had Bridgestone, Michelin and Metzler 01's before,. the Metzlers were better in pouring rain, but they tear when punctured due to the thin fast warming carcass, so I won't use those on the UK's debris covered roads. I see further up someone was considering the Trail-Riders, I've been thinking the same, as I already use those on a BMW GS.
