Title: battery died
Post by: edger on 29 August, 2019, 09:10:26 PM
After a "Swift " ride out today I stopped at a barrier down level crossing, turned off the engine while waiting for the 4 o'clock freight train to pass ,
Then she wouldn't bloody start again! so all the traffic I had overtaken passed me by !!!
Bumped her to start and trundled home all of two miles
Stopped her outside the shed and then she started right up
multi meter says 12 volts static, 13.7 -13.9 at 4000
Stopped her again to start NO GO!
battery at 10v not accepting a charge then?
Hey Ho nothing last forever
And I need a new back tire.

What your looking for across the terminals is 12.7v at rest, greater than 13.5v at 2,500 RPM and less than 14.8v at 5,000 RPM. Anything outside of that requires further testing of the charging system components, terminals and connections. Electrosportís generic fault finding flow chart for motorcycle charging systems is your best friend, link here

edit:- If the battery voltage is 10v then I'd suspect a dead cell or a drained battery in your multimeter.
