So..

MK1 2011, 8000 miles, 5000 miles done in last 14 months since I got it.

New battery 8 months ago, has let me down a couple of times, so i took to putting it on charge every night I commute on it.

Bike wouldn't start when coming home from work today,  Jump started it, rode 11 miles home.

Turned it off and on a few times, starting straight away, but noticed that as turn ignition on sometimes dip beam not come on, even when bike started dip and main not come on. but did it again and they worked as they should.

(it normally comes on and then goes off when press starter and then come on when running)

Ive not read any description like this in stator threads (unless i missed it)

I suspect the stator But is the above suggesting a possible wiring fault causing the starting problems?

A multimeter is your best friend

Main beam/low beam intermittent failure (assuming bulbs and bulb connections are good)
test headlight relay
check relay wiring to earth, starter button, fuse box and ignition switch etc

Flat battery
test the battery, battery connections, stand by current drain and the charging system output voltage.

Just a thought - you do have the standard H7 headlamp bulbs?

Intermittent headlamp failure as you describe can occur with some HID headlamp set ups.

Error Symptoms:

You suddenly discover that both headlights are off while engine is running!
You turn on the high-beam switch on the left handlebar, and both lights still remains off!
You pull the overtake button on the left handlebar and high-beam turns on.

These are clear indications that the starter switch in the right handlebar switch unit is faulty and does not re-establish correct voltage to the low beam headligt and the high beam relay after having been pushed to start the engine.
The fault may typically only happen very rarely, but with time more and more often. Sometimes the headlight can be turned on again if you gently pull outwards and wriggles on the starter button.
