hairspray as recommended by those not allowed spanners :112:

Handlebar grips need a proper bond and there's no need for any reassuringly expensive glues such as Renthal's quick bond or Gorilla's monkey glue to achieve that. The trick is obvious and that is to clean both surfaces and, to be sure, to be sure, rough up the handlebar a little to give a good key to bond to. Then it's down to what you whatever you have to hand, apart from hairpsray, virtually any cheap as chips super glue will do, my weapon of choice would be a RTV silicone.

That'll probably be either the front suspension or the steering head bearings, easy enough to check as per Section 4 of the workshop manual which, if you’re allowed spanners and you haven't already, you may want to download the Honda Workshop and Owners Manuals here. If the front suspension and steering head bearings seem fine check the torque of the stem adjusting nut Section 14 of the workshop manual should be of interest here, HOWEVER, there is no need to remove the fairings or the front forks.

How I did it was to displace what is needed to remove the handlebar, stem nut and top yoke (the bottom yoke pinch bolts will hold the forks in place). You can then remove the stem lock nut and lock washer to torque the stem adjusting nut, you'll need a suitable C spanner, I got this one off eBay . It can be difficult to maintain the correct torque of the adjusting nut when tightening the lock nut which can result in the adjusting nut being over tightened and locking up or stiffening the steering. An assistant is needed to hold the adjusting nut with a C spanner while the lock nut is tightened against the lock washer, using a drift and hammer to lightly tap the lock nut to align with the lock washer tabs, it took me two attempts to get this correct.

What you have there is a SC58 CBF1000 A9 a much overlooked but an excellent choice for a Sports Tourer that ticks many boxes in its class. A big plus for me is the ease in which it can be serviced and maintained at home by the home mechanic without the need of any special tools or diagnostic equipment. If you’re allowed spanners and you haven't already, you may want to download the Honda Workshop and Owners Manuals here.
