What did you ride on your Test?
« on: 27 November, 2010, 08:51:17 PM »
Accepting that today’s odyssey is a good long way from that which most of us saw at the local Test Centre and being more than glad that we don’t have to do it ever again.

What wonderful steed did you turn up on, the day you passed your test?

Personally, mine was a third hand Honda 50.

What about the rest of you?

June 1963 on a Lambretta LD 125. Took a wrong turn on the test route and when I finally came across the examiner again had to blag a story about the fuel pipe coming off and holding me up for a while  :006: passed though  :152:

Smashed my C15 up the day before my test in 1964 so borrowed my mates Francis Barnet Falcon fitted with clip ons would you believe. He was over 6ft tall and used to ride it with his feet on the rear pegs. Happy Days!!
Passed test by the way.

I did it on my own battered '77 cb550. Was probably the easiest test I've ever done once I actually got the bike to start.  :008:

BSA Bantam 175 in 1969.
I had absolutely zero training. I spent 12 months riding, read the rules of the road and applied for the test.
I failed first time because I did not convince the tester that I had taken a really good look to my right before taking a left hander at a T junction. Bad boy!
In hindsight, I'm surprised that was all I got wrong way back then. I really hadn't a clue....... Like most others at the time.
Jumbo, still learning.
You’ve got to be very careful if you don’t know where you are going, because you might not get there.

Honda 50 Sprint 1964 passed first time, Bet I would not pass the test today though. Amazing to think after passing a test in those days on a 50 cc I could have went straight to a dealer and bought a Triumph bonnie just about the quickest thing  going then and rode away on it.

11th November 2006.  Honda CG125.   Kick start version!  :157:  It was probably 5th hand by the time I bought it. But it served me well. I used to do 100 mile journeys on it after work just for fun and practise!

Failed the test first time because I didn't do a life saver as I was turning right at some traffic lights, (hmm, I think Int1 might tell me to keep looking the way I'm going at that point. Lifesaver further back from the junction and rely on mirrors after that)  ....... the examiner took me straight back to the test centre.   :191:

On the 2nd attempt, it was a very short test, same examiner, and I never did have to do a hill start!!   :028:

A late comer to biking, took mine on a cold Thursday in May 2009 on a white Yamaha XJ6, test rode a number of bikes that first weekend using my pass certificate as proof of basic competence and took delivery of the Biffer (winner of the test rides) the following Friday (8 days after passing).
