    - my engine revs 4000 rpm at 100km/hr with 16t, how much will 17t rev at 100km/hr?
    - is it a big job to replace ?
    - anyone have links as whereto buy, Canada or USA?

    Thanks,

There are two articles on this - mine has pictures https://www.cbf1000.com/index.php/topic,8802.0 and https://www.cbf1000.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=81&Itemid=29

The speedo ends up dead accurate. But I found the bike "boring" so I put the 16 tooth one back.

Lots of great iinfo. on the 17t front sprocket ...thanks. Think I will stick with the 16t as I really like roll on power in 6th gear.

I changed to the 17 tooth sprocket a year ago, cant say I noticed any loss in acceleration. But I do a lot of Euro touring & I am now getting an extra 30 miles a tank full on the 17 tooth sprocket.

I have just fitted the 17t front sprocket on, and must admit it does free the engine up. Think I will keep it on,   as what appeared to be over revving in each gear has disappeared and the bike still pulls away quickly.

    Hi Boblov...

The 17 tooth front sprocket gives you approx the equibalent of a 6 1/2 top gear i.e. gearing is about half way towards having a 7th gear.    Also would help those who suffer from the 'vibe at 5' and reduce the revs to just below the vibe at about 85mph in top.

Martin, life seems to be a constant compromise.  I changed back to the 16 toother for the same reason, the Hoolligan in the bike had gone but having said that as long as I changed down another gog the Biffer still went pretty damn well.  I keep my 17 tooth FS in the hope of a long Continental jaunt one day.

From reading the many and varied posts on this topic it would seem that most who have changed to the 17 tooth FS have indeed preferred it and not reverted to the 16.  I wil still stick with the 16 tooth job for most riding, yho get used to it and anyway the roll on in top is that bit better with 16.

     :mfrlol:

I was toying with the idea of using a 17t front sprocket but I figured I'd stick to my 16t front and 42t rear arrangement as reading through your posts, it appears not everyone is happy using 17t. With my set up, 74mph (Bike speedo) is 70mph on Tomtom instead of 77mph previously.
I have a Power Commander III, K&N filter, NGK Iridium sparkies and standard pipes and can cover 140 miles on half the tank at 70 to 75 mph on motorways, which is not bad going for a heavy litre bike and a pair of GIVI 36lt panniers!

I'm sticking with my 16t/42t arrangement asI've clearly got the best of both worlds this way? My biffer is happy pootling around at 30mph in fifth as it is cruising at 70mph in 6th or blasting round the twisties! The PC III has improved the torque so it accelerates a lot stronger! Try it?
