I've got a mk1 I bought 11 years ago with 75000km. She's now got 158000km. Now on stator number 3. Local Honda dealer finagled a new flywheel and stator ( including labour) for me 10 years ago and no problems since. Mind you, I did upgrade to a Mosfet type stator, so maybe that's the trick. Or the fact that I keep a spare stator and regulator under the seat as good luck charms. Did a 19000km trip around Canada last year. Head gasket blew while idling in my garage two weeks after getting home! Planed the head on a plate of glass with glued on sand paper, hand lapped the valves just to refresh, replaced valve seals to be safe. Just started the other day, runs good, I haven't ridden " Penny" yet, but I suspect she'll be fine. Aiming for 200000 km now.

So that's two CBF1000's you've had, this one and the $800 one, both with failed head gaskets, is it too late to call custard :016:

A MOSFET stator you say? I think you mean a MOSFET regulator/rectifier which of course wouldn't be an upgrade because the stock, factory fitted CBF1000 Regulator/Rectifier is a Shindengen MOSFET unit.

Yup, sorry, I meant reg/rec. I did not know that about the oem one. Oh well, good to have a spare. On the first one , when I went to torque the head, in three sequences as indicated in the factory manual, four head bolts pulled their threads at 12 lb/ft or less! So that kind of screwed the first head gasket. On inspection, the threads tapped into crankcase were only about half an inch in depth, whereas the bolt threads are about an inch. Duh! Oh Honda, why? My theory is that after countless heat cycles, those hardened steel bolt threads, through expansion and contraction, 'eat' away at those insufficient threads. So, I drilled, tapped, and double stacked heli- coils in all ten holes. Those bolts torqued with no problem after that. On " Penny", I repeated  the process as a precaution. The silver one has a few thousand K of hard riding on her and is running like a gem. As for Penny, we shall see. Hope so, I love that over achieving underdog!

    Bought mine January 2011.

Since then I have 139000km on it. The things I have changed till now are:
    1. The stator which Honda replaced it to me at no cost at 10000km.
    2. Fuel Pump twice (at 54000km the first and at 122000km the second)
    3. Front wheel bearing at 54000km and Rear wheel at 95000km.
    4. Rectifier at 116000km

I cannot remember something else now.

The bike runs as silk till now. Never adjusted the valves though. Not hearing anything strange.
