Steering lock not working

Hello all, I have recently purchased a cbf1000 2007 model after wanting one for a long time, the bike is great but I have an issue with the steering lock not working and after much googling I haven't found a solution, I've checked through previous posts on here and found one post from a guy who stripped his lock down and found a problem with a spring but after removing the lock and dismantling it I can't seem to find the problem, I'm almost certain the lock pin is seized into the housing but after cleaning and lubricating around the lock pin I'm still not having any luck, the key pushes down as it should but it just won't turn to the left, hoping someone may have an idea or a solution without me replacing the lock set, I know it's probably not the strongest thing in the world and probably wouldnt deter theives at all so even if working wouldn't be the the only security but would be nice if I could ix it, thankyou I advance

I have seen threads on here about steering locks not lining up after head bearings change where misalignment occurs because of incorrect re assembly but that doesn't sound like your problem if you've had the lock off and the pin just wont move.

In almost 10 years of ownership I've never used the steering lock on mine, when left unattended my security of choice is a Xena 14 disc lock.

Thankyou for the reply, the guy I bought the bike from says it was working when he last used the bike in April and as I've had the lock disconnected and it still doenst work like you said I don't believe it to be an alignment problem, I've got an Oxford disc lock and a mammoth chain so if I can't get the steering lock working it's not the end of the world, il have another look lunchtime today and see if I can figure it out :)

sounds like you are sorted with regards to other security, what did we all do before disc locks? mine's an abus alarmed thing. You've now got me thinking about that seizing shut on the disc! i'll be lubing it today...
Although nice to know whats wrong i suppose it's how much time and effort for something that's hardly essential.

How worn is your key, when I got my bike switching from OFF to Ign ON was ok, but trying to engage the steering lock was hard work, with a new key it was much better.

I have tried with the second key which also doesn't help even after leaving a puddle of wd40 on the lock pin  overnight when i tried again today it was still very much stuck, I've had another look today at the internals and still cant seem to figure it out so I think for now Il leave it especially after seeing the amount of other people that have had opposite problems to me with them sticking on in the locked position, and as Marky mentioned earlier with all the extra security products we use on our bikes its not particularly essential. On a side note I managed to go for a proper ride today and its safe to say I'm happy I chose to buy one rather than stick with my 650 bandit

Never known anyone to be disappointed in a CBF1000, its a step up from a 650 Bandit and the purchase was probably a tough decision for you between a CBF1000 and a GSF1250 Bandit.

The CBF 1000 is a much over looked and excellent choice for a Sports Tourer that ticks many boxes in its class and they were built to Euro 3 Emission Standards which means that they are ULEZ and CAZ compliant, but note that 56 and 07 registered CBF 1000's will need to be registered with Transport for London (TfL) as Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) compliant as explained here.

A big plus for me is the ease in which the CBF1000 can be serviced and maintained at home, by the home mechanic, without the need of any special tools or diagnostic equipment . If you're allowed spanners and you haven't already you may want to download the Honda Workshop and Owners Manuals here.

I looked into the 1250 bandit but definitely pleased I chose the honda, on the tfl website it is ulez compliant so dont need to register however im a little confused with how the numbers work on the end of the model number, the logbook says its a cbf1000 a7 which leads me to believe possible manafactured in 2007 but it is on a 58 plate so il assume it was late to the registration party if that is how it works. Luckily enough I'm allowed spanners and a variety of other tools, I'm a car mechanic by trade so happy to tackle most motorcycle jobs myself. The 58 registration plate means it was first registered between 1st September 2008 and 28th February 2009, the CBF 1000 A-7 on the V5 section D.3 is the trade model name, model type and year of assembly (A = ABS, 7=2007) which means that it was a new old stock late registration.

To be sure, to be sure, check the VIN. If I was a gambling man I'd wager it reads ZDCSC58B07 xxxxxx where:

ZDC means it was made in Italy (Honda Italia Industriale)
SC58B is the Honda model designation
0 is a security check digit
7 is the year of manufacture (2007)
xxxxxx is the sequential production number
