You appear to have the correct technique, however, the first time the 3 pin stator to RR connector is disconnected it can prove to be difficult, some get hot and sticky when supplying all that ACv to the RR.
A goodly dousing in a brake & clutch cleaner such as
TRIPLE QX brake cleaner followed by a second dousing in a maintenance spray such as
TRIPLE QX maintenance spray should free it off. If that fails lever it off with a small flat bladed screwdriver placed between the tab and slot. Disclaimer - I don't have any shares in Euro Car Parts or the QX brand, just an aversion to parting with my hard earned for reassuringly expensive consumables such as WD40, GT85, Wynn's etc.
Before re-assembly give both parts of the connector and all the pins another good dousing in brake cleaner followed by an all over smear of
silicone grease including the connector pins, cheap as chips off eBay or from your preferred online supplier.
