    Alternator 3P connector

    Hello all

I'm having trouble disconnecting the alternator 3P connecter from the regulator/rectifier. (top connector 3 yellow wires). The connector has a tab which I assume you depress to release the connector, but even with this down I cannot pull it out. Is there a particular way of releasing the connector ?

    Thanks

    Hi Stran
I did my reg/rec quite recently and dont remember any problem, i also dont remember if its up or down to release! have you tried both ways? i do recall it was pretty stiff but came out ok after a few minutes,  i assume you've tried the usual squirty stuff around the joint?

You appear to have the correct technique, however, the first time the 3 pin stator to RR connector is disconnected it can prove to be difficult, some get hot and sticky when supplying all that ACv to the RR.

A goodly dousing in a brake & clutch cleaner such as TRIPLE QX brake cleaner followed by a second dousing in a maintenance spray such as TRIPLE QX maintenance spray should free it off. If that fails lever it off with a small flat bladed screwdriver placed between the tab and slot. Disclaimer - I don't have any shares in Euro Car Parts or the QX brand, just an aversion to parting with my hard earned for reassuringly expensive consumables such as WD40, GT85, Wynn's etc.

Before re-assembly give both parts of the connector and all the pins another good dousing in brake cleaner followed by an all over smear of silicone grease including the connector pins, cheap as chips off eBay or from your preferred online supplier.
