So my bike has been in storage  nearly 12 months due to s**tE BUILDERS  f###ing crap work etc  but i managed to get my girl back as she was due MOT and service my concern is the volt meter show 12.1 v @ tickover and flips to 13.2 with abit of throttle and sits @13.5 / 13.6 while cruising 5000/6000rpm   i feel it needs to be nearer 14v / 14.5   is the stator  on it`s way out ??????

I very much doubt it. I've now succumbed and fitted a cheap as chips eBay special onboard voltmeter and started to take more notice of battery and charging system voltage readings. Before buying into any stator myths you need to understand that the charging system voltage depends on several factors including the battery's initial level of charge, the engine operating temperature and the ambient temperature. Some recent examples of readings I've experienced include:

On a weekend camping trip at the beginning of August I used the motorcycle battery to power some lighting which almost flattened the battery. At the start of the 300 mile trip home I saw the voltage reading fluctuating from 11.5v to 12.2v @ 4,500 RPM , after 150 miles it settled down to a steady 13.2v @ 4,500 RPM and by the time I arrived home it was a healthy 13.9v @ 4,500 RPM.

Last Wednesday I set off on a 3 day, 1,000 mile sortie and on day one I saw 13.4v @ 4,500 RPM, day two I saw 13.6v @ 4,500 RPM, day three I saw 13.8v @ 4,500 RPM. Note the ambient temperatures were +30°C which increases the engine operating temperature and in turn lowers the charging system output.

Earlier doors Saturday morning the battery level of charge was 12.7v and the voltmeter read 13.9v @ 4,500 RPM

The real test of a stator is the AC voltage output across all three phases with the engine at normal operating temperature, expect three equal readings of 40 to 45 vAC.

Hi Art  checked through all connections and earth etc all seem well  But on a brighter idea {no pun} i decided to change the original headlight bulbs for LED 100w as they draw less current and  well the volt meter now sits @ 13.0 @ tickover and up to 13.8 /14.0 @ 3500 +  seems more like where i thought  :001:

    Happy days

Do you have a link, and may be video/photo in use, for the LED H7 bulbs? I'm thinking my 9 year old H7 HID could be reaching its end of life.
