    Squeak when accelerating

    Hi all,

    Context:
I’m currently almost at the end of a long trip that passed through the Alps and a lot of mountain passes and twisty roads.
Before the trip, I changed the tires and had to change the front brake pads halfway through.
Yesterday and today the weather was bad and I was riding in the rain for long.

    Issue:
Today, at the end of the ride, I noticed a squeak when accelerating.
Does not do it when stopped, only when accelerating while moving.

    What I checked:
I checked the chain, as I thought it could be tight and damaging something on the front sprocket, thus producing the squeak. The chain seems to have the correct slack and I’ve lubricated it frequently along the trip.
I also thought it could be dirty from the rain, but in that case it should also squeak while coasting, and it doesn’t.

What do you guys think it can be?
I’m afraid it’s something serious and I don’t want to damage it right at the last days of the trip.
Also, could just be something simple like dirt or gunk in the clutch or sprocket rubbers that cause the squeak when under the stress of acceleration.

Looking forward to have your thoughts.

My thoughts are a dry/worn rear wheel bearing(s); when you accelerate you are putting increased weight the bearings which could cause the noise. Put it on the centre stand and firstly check for any play in the bearings.

Thanks for the idea. I checked and everything seems ok. No play on the bearings.

I forgot to say that the noise sounded like it was coming from the engine and not from the back. Although, it quite hard to know exactly when you have to operate clutch and acelerador to make it happen  :001: :001:

Today I passed by a Honda dealer on the way. They had a look and said everything was ok.

In the meantime, with a bit more lubricant, the noise went away  :027:

The motorcycle is very dirty due to the rain and muddy roads from the past 3 days. Tomorrow I’ll give it a proper wash and clean the chain very well.
Hopefully it was just gunk and dirt.  :020:

    Cordialmente
