Hi i have a 2009 cbf and have put a fuel tank off a 2006 cbf on it but there is a thick wire attached to it looks like an earth wire it is looped at the end , can anyone tell me if it is an extra earth to be connected as my 2009 tank never had one attached .

Could it be the fuel level sensor wire?

What you have there is a SC58 which is Honda's designated model descriptor and part of the VIN on all 2006 to 2009 assembled CBF 1000's. So you see, and understand, a SC58 is an SC58 whether it be be a 2006 , 2007, 2008, 2009 and they're all the same (as are the later crossover 2010 models).

I think what you're describing is part 10 below. It's a safety strap to prevent the petrol pipes and wiring connected to the underside of the petrol tank from being stretched and subsequently damaged when the front of the tank is raised for servicing the top end of the engine (spark plugs etc). It bolts to the left side of the frame by means of a M6 x 35 mm flange bolt.

Here's a better image of it (Honda call it a 'stopper cable') from the Workshop Manual which if you’re allowed spanners and you haven't already, you may want to download the Honda Workshop and Owners Manuals here.

    Hi everyone
Thanks Art for your detailed response.
Reminds me of a similar bit I had on my 2013 Hornet but then it leads to one more question: this strap doesn't belong on the MkII models of our beefers, correct ? I think I would have noticed it on mine by now...
    Cheers

Correct... Honda never supplied their 'stopper cable' with the later SC64 face lift model. I don't know why, next time you're in there check and see if there is provision to bolt one on.
