    Replacement cords for top box?

Looks like a piece of cord with a split rubber piping covering it in the middle.

Considering how much these boxes cost new, it looks awful.

    Any help appreciated, thank you.

A good few years ago now, mine gave way and I posted a similar thread to this. A very kind member (who might still be here, but I don't know) sent me some thick elastic cord to replace. However, they didn't last a great long time. Open the box in a bit of wind and the lid acts as a sail and has some power!

Having sat and thought about it, I'm not too sure what to recommend. A bit of chain perhaps. Sort something out of kitchen/bathroom plug chains? Maybe paracord might have the required strength. I don't know. To be honest, I've just not replaced mine now and just hold it tight if there's any breeze.

But if you do sort it, please tell us!

    Thanks for the reply.

Is it true the Honda top boxes are re-branded Givi?

Will try some bungee cords from a parachute container  :028:

Will update thread with how it goes.

    Hi Gimpymoo,
The Honda branded paniers & top box on my 2009 GT (Mk1) are definitely rebranded Givi products.  The "Ropey"  lid restraints were pathetic and didn't last very long.  After doing some google research I found some genuine Givi spares that were made of a dense flexible, nylon (?) type of material that are still in use, more than ten years on, I think.
I bought them, on line, from a UK company called Bike Bitz BUT, they appear to have ceased trading !!   Being geniune Givi spares I would think they could be still available somewhere, the boxes were a very common item.  The same part number suited both top box & panniers.
I haven't found the original receipt or part number references yet but I will keep looking.
    Good luck anyway,
    Cheers
    Paul
