Usual non starting with stand down. Bought a better condition used stand switch but starting was intermittent.
Instead of fully tightening the switch securing bolt , I included a spring washer on the bolt and gradually tightened it to the point where the switch was securely fastened. I continued to try and start it whilst doing so and it got to the point where it now starts with the stand down.
I took the old switch apart and found it contains several contacts on two rings. This enables the bike to start with the stand up or down or cut out if you put it in gear with the stand down. This is a sealed unit that makes it nearly impossible to let dirt etc in. As far as I can tell the internal settings of the switch are so delicately balanced that the gradual adjustment of the securing bolt has sorted the problem.
