    London ULEZ

This is mainly for CBF owners who live in London and ride older CBF's. For those outside London not familiar with ULEZ, it's a £12.50 fine everytime you use a vehicle, cars and bikes, registered before 2007. Owners of such vehicles, according to Sadiq Khan(London Mayor) and his panel of "experts", are responsible for producing such high levels of toxic fumes in the air that life and limb are in dire peril if inhaled! The ULEZ zone is due to expand next August from currently central London to the outskirts of the M25 ring motorway. This will take in parts of Essex, Surrey, Kent ect. and has certainly pi**ed off councils in these areas.
Now my 2009 CBF is exempt but out of curiosity I entered the reg. on the .gov ULEZ checker of five 2006 CBF's for sale on ebay and they are all"charges appy" not exempt!!
Does any other London owner have a 2006 model and if so, did they have to apply for an exemption on the grounds that it's the same as a 2007 on bike?

There's an old thread on ULEZ HERE

Would be interesting to get an update from any A6 owners on their experiences.

Its a charge not a fine, think of it more on the lines of the Dartford Toll.

The exemption for the 2006 CBF 1000's is because they are early adopter's of and meet the Euro 3 emissions standards for NOx. Individual applications have to be made on that basis and not because another 2006 CBF 1000 is on Transport for London's vehicle compliance database.

The ULEZ charge is more complicated than pre 2007, yes it is applied to to pre 2007 (Euro 3) motorcycles. Generally to comply with TfL's ULEZ standard petrol Ccars, vans and minibuses need to meet Euro 4  (2006), diesel cars Euro 5 (2011) and diesel vans and minibuses Euro 6 (2015)

To be sure, to be sure check your vehicle registration number on TfL's ULEZ check website here

Update on the last two posts of that ^^^ thread

I've now been in and out of the ULEZ Charge Zone about 250 times on my SC58 CBF 1000- A6, including the new North Circular Road (A406) and South Circular Road (A205) expansion and now "NO OTHER CHARGES APPLY"

    Happy Days

Yes,that's interesting and I've also seen the larger post from 2018 on ULEZ.
I'm also a bit confused with the status of 40 year old historic vehicles regarding ULEZ. Apart from MOT and road tax exemption I've read that they are also ULEZ exempt. However, my friends 1980 Kawasaki Z650 shows as "charges apply". No doubt he will have to apply for exemption if London bound.

Don't be confused, you are correct in that all vehicles that have a historic vehicle tax class will be exempt from the ULEZ. This tax class excludes any vehicle used commercially (for example, coffee vans or street food vans).

Note the wording 'will be exempt' is different to 'are exempt'. Assuming your friends Kawasaki is classed as a historic vehicle for the purpose of DVLA's tax classification and that it is not a commercial vehicle they should apply for it to be included on TfL's exempt vehicles database if only to give TfL something to do. Once included on the exempt vehicles database it...  will be exempt.

Thanks Art for the useful info. Keeping older machines on the road isn't as simple as it used to be!

Bristol is also introducing a low emission zone charge. Being Bristol, it includes most of the car parks in the city itself. Being Bristol, the Park and Ride facilities will still shut at 8 PM, so tough luck if you had wanted to go into Bristol for a night out and you cannot afford to replace your car. Also being Bristol, the late night buses run slightly less dependably than a cheap Chinese watch, so if you live a few miles down the road make sure you start for home by 9 PM unless you want to walk it in the rain, Cinderella. It appears the (Labour) Mayor wants to keep all the ghastly poor people out of the city center.

The one thing Brizzle seems to be getting right is the web site where you can check if your car/bike/tracked armoured vehicle is exempt by its number plate.

ULEZ is becoming one hell of a cash cow for TFL.
An RAC study in October found that TFL have raised £112.5 million in charges so far with 1.9 million journeys per month being made. £93.6 million from the expanded zone area alone. The August 2023 expansion covering Greater London will bring in some serious cash.
Not surprised that other authorities around the country are looking to get in on the act.
