Extra brake light in top case

Hi, I have (just 2 weeks now) a CBF1000FA with a GT suitcase set.
In the top one is a red "light" bar. What do I need to convert this
to an additional brake light?

Now this has just set me off on a little project!

I've got the top box with a smaller red insert and a thin strip reflector each side, so, I have stuck two strips of 12v LEDs to the outward pointing side of the white plastic reflector that's fitted inside the central reflector (set up is the same on the side reflectors) which come on when the ignition is turned on with the other lights. A trial run looks quite good, not overbright. The LEDs were purchased to provide scenic lighting on my model railway and were just lying around spare.

Next step is some judicious cable/wire routing in the top box and putting in some in-line waterproof connectors allowing the top box to be taken off.

I may, at a later stage, add some brake activated LEDs (these LEDs come to full brightness immediately so will be fine to use a supplementary brake lights) to the inside of the side red reflectors on the top box after this proof of concept.

First and, so far, only pic. Not brake lights, just normal running lights. They're strips of white 12v LEDs with the colour coming from the red plastic. Looking good to my eyes!

All finished with an inline fuse and waterproof connector so the top box can be removed. I was fortunate in that a previous owner had put in an ignition triggered cigarette lighter-type connector under the seat an I simply took the power from the feeds to that.

Quite a simple job in the end. Mind you, I'm in no way a professional (well, former IBM hardware engineer used to monochrome wiring looms but speed mattered even then) so the 'finished article' may not be as neat and tidy as some would have it. Maybe I'll tidy it up a bit later. But it works.

Will take some more pix of the actual installation when I can.

I've now started thinking of maybe adding another couple of rows of LEDs underneath these as extra brake lights, but doing that would have to wait a while.

Looking good. Its been a long time concern of mine, especially with the amount of riding I do after dark, just how visible the stock rear end is. Most of the kit is sitting on a shelf in the shed I just need to get a round tuit.

Indeed it is! Waiting out the pouring rain, which is holding up the top ten qualifying session for the famous Mt Panorama Bathurst Supercars Race...

Even though it is just down the road from where I live, I am warmly ensconced on the sofa, watching it on the telly...
