Hi all, and greetings from Downunder… Thank you for the opportunity to join this forum, I am well aware how helpful they can be. I have only just acquired a red 2008 CBF1000A Mk1. It was a bit of a sudden decision, (from concept to purchase was only days), having recently retired I thought I might move the balance a little, from fast day rides and occasional overnights to longer runs with more comfort and carrying capacity. I did not want to lose baseline performance from my Kawasaki Z900 RS Cafe.

I have owned Honda’s before, 2 x VFR750 and 2 x VTR1000 + dirtbikes at various times in the past, but the last was over ten years ago. This one is a lovely, well maintained example with some small & appropriate mods + full luggage, and is made to order for my needs. I have been pleasantly surprised by its wide range of capability while in my limited ownership, and how straightforward simple maintenance appears to be.. (not always a Honda trait…) Much as as I love the Kawasaki, this will probably replace it, albeit via a lengthy goodbye. (sniff!)

I am lucky enough to live in a rural area on good motorcycling roads, so that is my norm for riding, though the city isn’t too far away. I do like how admirably the Biffer deals with country roads torn up by the massive rain in SE Australia over the past year, big country and small population often means spending on infrastructure is spread thin.

Look forward to meeting you all!

    cheers, jc.

What you have there is a SC58 CBF1000 A-8 an excellent choice for a Sports Tourer that is much over looked in its class. A big plus for me has been the ease in which it can be serviced and maintained at home by the home mechanic without the need of any special tools or diagnostic equipment. If you’re allowed spanners and you haven't already, you may want to download the Honda Workshop and Owners Manuals here.

Well done on the impulse purchase, first impressions are normally spot on. It took me over 3 months of pondering before I acquired mine as a stop gap between Triumphs, its still here 8 years later, its my only motorcycle, its in regular use and there's been no looking back.

I've visited NSW half a dozen times over the years, touring the full length of the NSW coastline, never straying out of NSW except for one memorable long weekend on the Gold Coast where I broke three toes coming off a water slide in the Wet 'n' Wild water park. One place I always seem to end up visiting is Pie in the Sky at Cowan, mainly because the grandchildren live nearby but also because they bake exceedingly good pies. I'm overdue another visit now that Australia has re-opened it's borders.

    Happy days, enjoy your retirement.

    Thanks Fliz and Art,

Sometimes you get buyers regret, but thankfully this impulsive purchase is the opposite - I’ve ridden it every day since getting it home (retirement!) and like it better every time. It was due for a service on calendar, not km’s (only 3000km since 2020) and it was a breeze, particular as new filters and parts included with the sale. I am usually a bit of a suspension botherer, spending large sums to get it just right, but keep pinching myself became apart from wanting a little more front preload (probably needs the oil change anyway…) I am actually pretty happy with the stock Showa setup, even at pace - weird!

Appreciate the link to the manual, and will download, but fortunately also got two large binders with full manual in hard copy in the sale, including greasy fingerprints on appropriate pages and Sharpie annotated dates on all replaceable parts.

Glad to hear you enjoyed some of the delights of motorcycling the fine state of NSW Art, I was at Pie in the Sky not long ago, all still as you describe.

I’ll now keep an eye out for other Biffer jockeys, come up and say G’day if anyone sees me out on the red beast.

    chrs, jc
