Can't think of anything specific. Probably someone might be along shortly. But I would tend to first of all look at the usual suspects. See if one of the HT leads is shorting (run it in the dark, see if you can see any sparking anywhere) and check the battery terminals are not loose. These days spark plugs seem to last a lot longer than they ever used to, but that's another avenue to look at, compare the state of them, which might give you a clue which cylinder might be missing.

If the FI light has lit, even for a moment, then the PGM-FI system has noted an error.  It should have stored a fault code which can be read from the system.

These systems can't read HT outputs so, oddly enough, it is less likely to be coil/lead/plug related even if they arent 100%

    Reading the code/s is key.

Thank you I will look into that as the problem is likely fuel-related I assume rightly or wrongly ?.

To clearly answer one of your original questions/suggestions, your problem has nothing to do with using 5% or 10% ethanol fuel. Rest assured that the bike runs on both quite happily.

If the Fuel Injection (FI) Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is flashing I'd start right there because when it flashes it is flashing out a fault code, or if its on constant its an indication of a stored fault code. You don't need any special tools to read the FI MIL fault codes click here to read how I do it

Thank you guys for all your help and advice I have managed to locate the problem there was no faults on the MIL so I had to look deeper and I found a moving  positive pole on the battery it was loose but the connection to the battery was solid  so fitted a new battery and hey presto it is all back to normal :152: :001: :028:
