Hi all,

Thanks for the forum. Shortly buying my CBF1000, hopefully in the next week after 3months of deciding which bike to buy. Looked at VFR's Vstroms etc, I'm short at 5' 8 so both feet down is important to me, 63 so i ache in all the usual places and I've lost my mad gene. CBF seemed super comfortable, pulled right through and nice and easy for my inexperience.

I'm 66 and still find the CBF1000 comfortable for a good long while when riding, so fear not on that front. It's also a well mannered bike handling-wise, although if you've got a top box on it, be wary of plonking too much heavy stuff in that, or the front end can become light. Despite it's easy nature, it'll lift up it's skirts when you want and will maintain a good cruising speed on main roads or motorways. I don't know if you are getting a mk1 or mk2, but with the mk1 you might have to play with the screen to get the best out of it. Other than that, all good.

You can't go wrong with a CBF1000, there's little difference in the original SC58 and the later SC64 facelift model apart from the unwarranted stator hype the SC58 attracts. My preference is the earlier SC58, as with all facelift models they'll cost you a premium to buy whereas the original models can be had at very favourable prices, sometimes less is more! Just bear in mind the SC58 production years were 2006 to 2009 and the SC64 were 2010 to 2013 so if you're offered an SC58 later than 2010 or an SC64 later than 2014 you can be sure that it's been laying about unregistered gathering dust and corrosion. Look for an original motorcycle that previous owners haven't tinkered with too much and you wont go too far wrong. I wouldn't give to much mind to service history either just take it as you find it.

A big plus for me is the ease in which the CBF1000 can be serviced and maintained at home, by the home mechanic, without the need of any special tools or diagnostic equipment. If you’re allowed spanners and you haven't already, you may want to download the Honda Workshop and Owners Manuals here.

Now the proud owner of a pre abs biffer, 2006.  So I guess it's one of the originals. Would that make it a MK1? . 37,000 miles but looks and sounds ok at the moment, no doubt I'll learn a lot more in the next few weeks. Really appreciate your comments and the manuals links. Let's hope they're more for maintenance and not repair.

What you have there is specified by Honda as a SC58 CBF1000-6, the MkI and MkII thing was made up and never really caught on in the trade for spare parts or accessories. The workshop manual covers all manner of maintenance and repair.
