What defines a GT model?
on: 28 July, 2022, 11:50:56 PM
So I've just acquired a 2010 Mk1 that is fitted with Honda lower fairings and a full set of Honda panniers and top box.

I have no idea if this is as it was supplied new, however, does it suggest I have GT model? Or just one where the fairings and panniers have been added at a later date, even though I believe that would have been more expensive.

I understood the GTs were (full luggage plus) Honda's melt your gloves heaters and TomTom Rider sat nav and lowers fitted.

So, any sign of a TomTom fittment (power cord dangling) and warm hands ?
Only do it right - no bodging please.

...there's an unbranded control module with an up and a down button and 3 leds, the handlebar grips are unbranded also and there's a cigarette lighter power point under the seat - that's all.

For Mk1 models, the GTs came with lower fairings, panniers and a top box, all of which used the ignition key to lock and unlock and were coloured the same as the bike. I think they all had ABS too (which I don't think all non GT models had, certainly initially). I don't think there were any other extras to accommodate sat navs or anything, although perhaps such things might have been an optional extra, or more likely a dealer or owner fitted extra. At least that's the story with my 2008 bike, which I bought when 12 months old and was completely stock.

Check the V5 Section D3 MODEL - If I was a gambling man I'd wager what you see is 'CBF 1000 A-9', I'm assuming here it's an ABS model.

The official Honda designations for the 2006 to 2009 CBF 1000 models are SC58 and SC58 ABS, the 2010 to 2013 facelift models being the SC64 and SC64 ABS

From 2008 the SC58's could be ordered as a touring version with ABS and detachable panniers, many other options have been offered but as far as I'm aware Honda has never officially offered a GT model.

Model is 'CBF 1000 T-A' (it's a 2010 mk1)

Interesting you say there was no official GT version, presumably what is being shown as a 'GT' is actually just a standard version with an official Honda 'touring pack'?

(boxes are indeed the same colour as the bike and the ignition key fits panniers and top box)

Just curious, what's the 10th digit on the VIN? (found halfway down Section 4 of the V5)

OK, satisfy our curiosity on the 10th digit when you get the V5

Now curious where you got the model 'CBF 1000 T-A' information from?

From the green slip and off the DVLA website when checking the MoT history.

I'm presuming the T refers to 2010 and the A to ABS, but then, shouldn't it be 'CBF 1000 A-T'?
