Afternoon all, just joined the forum after lurking quite a bit prior to the purchase of a 2009 MK1 ABS model. My last bike was a V-Strom 650 and I fancied something a bit more solid feeling with a big lazy engine, had been considering a Bandit 1250 but the relative build quality of the CBF1000 stood out to me when comparing the two side by side and I do have a soft spot for Hondas. Had also been considering a CB1300 but the ~£1500 saving of the CBF won out!

I survived the 40 mile ride home today with no drama, the bike is much more relaxed at motorway speed than my V-Strom was and the constant buffetting was replaced with smooth but loud wind blast which I consider to be an improvement overall.

The bike was set at the lowest seat height by the previous owner, I've just raised it up to the highest position as I'm 6'2 and the gap between the seat and tank is a tad disconcerting but others on this forum seem not to have had any issues with it. We'll see if I can put up with it I guess! I don't really intend to do much modification of the bike but I'll definitely be doing some servicing and maintenance ahead of the winter, my bike will be commuting throughout unless it snows an I always prefer to know everything is in tip-top shape before the bad weather and short days hit. The bike will be living outside under a cover so feel free to offer tips on where I should be focusing my anti-corrosion efforts, it's one of the cleaner examples I've seen but the swing arm definitely isn't perfect.

Stator looks like it's been replaced but I can only tell this because the sealant job on the connector looks a bit shoddy, wish me luck on this as I hate having charging issues! I'll definitely be getting the ammeter out and checking everything works properly soon.

What you have there is a SC58 CBF1000 A-9 an excellent choice for a Sports Tourer that ticks many boxes in its class. A big plus for me is the ease in which it can be serviced and maintained at home by the home mechanic without the need for any special tools or diagnostic equipment. If you’re allowed spanners and you haven't already, you may want to download the Honda Workshop and Owners Manuals here.

In my opinion there's too much hype about the SC58 Charging System. If your interested in testing the Charging System here's how I do it, keep a record of the numbers for future reference

Sorry, really slow on the reply but I'm based in Motherwell currently, luckily within a 5 minute ride of Rapid Motorcycles (probably close enough that I could push my bike if I needed to).
