Hi all,
Just bought myself a beautiful brand new (2007) black CBF with 6500 miles on it!!
My KTM 990, way too big and heavy, was stolen in September last year and sadly I was insured by MCE who went bust the next week. Finally paid out via FSCS so was able to buy the bike that nine months of research lead me to.
Only ridden 85 motorway miles so far and I love it already.

Did you have to do a major service and check the tyres for ageing? It really sounds an amazing find and I hope it gives you many miles of fun.

The CBF1000 is an excellent choice for a Sports Tourer that ticks many boxes in its class. A big plus for me is the ease in which it can be serviced and maintained at home by the home mechanic without the need of any special tools or diagnostic equipment. If you’re allowed spanners and you haven't already, you may want to download the Honda Workshop and Owners Manuals here.

A 2007 SC58 with only 6,500 miles on the clock and I'd be all over it like a rash tending to anything not covered by the MOT or not specifically mentioned in the service history. The Honda maintenance schedules can be found on page 75 & 76 of the owners manual or section 4 of the workshop manual. As an initial service I'd ignore the service intervals and go over everything except the valve clearances, assuming there are no undue rattles clangs or bangs from the engine.

Tyres are new and the previous owner serviced the bike every year, last full fluid change and brake check six months ago. Some of the MOTs have less than 30 miles between them but still have a logged service.

I intend to service the bike myself so this is really useful. In fact the ease of self servicing was one of the reasons I started looking for one in the first place and the information on this forum was invaluable.
I’m happy to replace a stator every few years 😂

That's an amazing find. But I guess there are people that buy a bike, use it for a few sunny weekends then put it in the garage/shed and forget about it, possibly for decades. The only time it comes to notice is in the pub when the owner can say "oh yes, I've got a bike..." They are out there.

I guess that's why there's container loads of bikes still coming to our shores from North America for their second life.
