Poor idle and stalling when hot

Hi all, looking for a bit of advise on my cbf1000a8.
Went for a long ride today and when the bike is hot the idle drops to about 900 rpm, sometimes dropping and surging to 500 rpm and stalling. Starts up on the button straight away. When blipping the throttle to keep it running it seems "fluffy" for want of a better description. instead of a nice crisp response. Once its cooled a bit its ok, back to a nice stable idle at abt 1100 - 1200 rpm. Bike is normally used for short distance commuting.

Are there any current or stored fault codes? You don't need any special tools or software to read the Diagnostic Trouble Codes, the procedure is mostly explained in the workshop manuals, or there is a how to here.

What condition are the spark plugs in and when were they last inspected or replaced?

If there are no DTC's and the spark plugs pass muster there could be many other causes, not something that can be diagnosed over the internet. You need to logically work your way through a troubleshooting process, if you’re allowed spanners and you haven't already, you may want to download the Honda Workshop and Owners Manuals here, the troubleshooting section should be of interest.

Not checked for codes yet, that was next job, was just putting it out there incase anyone else suffered the same.
Ive got the manual so time to start digging. Its only the idle that suffers, as soon as i pick up the revs over 1200 its fine and pulls like a train through the rev range
Ill make a note of everything i do and what i find and post it here incase anyone else suffers in the future

The problem with someone else experiencing the same symptoms is that, contrary to popular belief, it may not be caused by the same fault. There are several reasons for an erratic idle and one solution will not fit all. Work through a logical troubleshooting procedure of the fault, test and prove that any suspected faulty parts are in fact faulty.

By all means post your results here, what you checked, what was good and what you found the problem to be. Making notes and documenting servicing, maintenance and repairs to any motor vehicle is the correct thing to do, it's what all the main dealers do now, it builds up into a great resource for future servicing, maintenance and fault diagnosis.
