Real Tank Range before light comes on.

Hi All,

Anyone know what the tank range is before the fuel light comes on?

Also what is the reserve range?

There has been much discussion on this over the years and it seems if you ask this of any two CBF1000 owners you'll get three answers. My SC58 averages 200+ miles from its 5 gallon tank which equates to 50+ mpg. Assuming you're now the proud owner of an SC64, the SC58 doesn't have a fuel light, your fuel economy will be about the same or different, depending how you ride it, road speed and other conditions. Fill it up, note the start mileage, ride it until the light comes on, note the mileage, ride it until it runs out, note the reserve mileage (top tip take a topped up fuel can with you). Report back your findings here, sit back with a bag of pop corn and wait for others to post how much more or less they're getting.

Thanks. I always fill up at the 120 mile mark when touring (would ruin a trip if you are out of fuel in the middle of nowhere), but just wandering if i can run it a bit longer before fill ups, but still give myself a 30mile safety margin.

The most I'd ever put in my mkII was 18.0L with the meter showing (reserve fuel used) 2.something - that's as far as I'd like to take it (without that can strapped to the back).  This was 200 miles since filling previously.

I always worked on the 4L reserve (max) - but never tested it (and never claimed a fuel muppet badge).
The furthest I ever rode it before refuelling was 230 miles.

The mkII fuel used since reserve is your friend (not be abused).

Whilst touring, with my wife riding her CBF600SA, I’ve achieved 60+ mpg from my MK2.

Light comes on at about 180ish miles.

Does it have a fuel warning light?

What you have there is a 'SC58 CBF1000 A-9' for more information than you can shake a stick at you can download and read the Honda CBF1000 Owners and Workshop Manuals here.

When I had a mk 1 I found the guage to be no where like linear. It would stay high for long periods then drop like a stone. I think a lot of people report the same. The guage on my mk2 is much more linear and reliable.
