An oil thread! Expect recommendations to exceed the number of replies.

Any 10W-30 or 10W-40 motorcycle engine oil that meets API SG and JASO T 903 MA will do. Top tip - Read the labels, from cheap as chips to reassuringly expensive you'll not be able to tell one oil from another by their specifications. My engine oil and filter of choice for the past six oil changes has been Motul 5100 10W-40 4T semi synthetic and a HiFlo HF204, changed every 8,000 miles and its all good.

Thank you so you recommend Motul 5100 10w-40 over 5100 10w-30 ? thanks

Grade of engine oil should be selected according to the average ambient temperatures where the motorcycle is used. Here in the UK either a 10W-30 or 10W-40 will be fine, my choice is 10W-40 due to its availability and its normally at a more favourable price.

The SC58 CBF1000 is fitted with the SC57E engine, the same engine was fitted to production years from 2006 through to 2009 so what's OK for one will be OK for all. That said I've just checked my service record and its the Motul 5000 10W-40 I've been using, it meets the Honda specification and works out less expensive than the 5100.
