Stiffen rear shock
on: 16 March, 2022, 03:23:46 PM
Hi,
basic query, I want to stiffen the rear shock a little and only done it once before to a bike which was a ZX6r. I looked in the online manual I have but it isn't in there.

I take it I just use a c-spanner and turn it from left to right if you're looking at it from the back wheel?

Thanks

I think you mean right to left, if swinging the C-spanner around the rear of the bike (not easy).
You want to put number 7 indent (physically the lowest to the ground) towards the peg (if not on the peg!).

If it feels soft, it is soft; do yourself a favour and move it two-notches stiffer and then road test it.
Do you have the owners booklet ?
Only do it right - no bodging please.

Which online manual are you looking at, there are two?

The Workshop Manual which is mostly for the mechanic and workshop repairs but it also covers the maintenance schedule and procedures.

The Owners Manual which is mostly for the owner and how to operate the motorcycle but also has an overlooked section that covers the maintenance schedule and procedures which, in my opinion, is more suited to the occasional home mechanic.

It is in the Owners Manual, found clipped to the underside of the pillion seat, or if its not there you can download the Owners Manuals here. You'll find the details of how to adjust the rear suspension under the MAJOR COMPONENTS (Information you need to operate this motorcycle) section.

Have a read of page 20  :016:

Thanks for the replies.
I've found the manual that shows what you described, thanks, and see what you mean about right to left. And yes last time I did it it was a pain in the arse! I'll move it clicks and give it a try.

Think I had the owners manual with the basic stuff in it.
Thanks again  :028:
