starter motor noise
on:

morning folks
i've got a 2007 CBF 1000 and today the engine did not start. when i pressed the starter button the starter motor made a normal sound for a second before going to a higher pitched sound and the engine refused to start even though the battery seemed to have enough oomph. battery has been on an oxford charger for past week or so and managed to start ok last night. it was put back on the charger after starting it.
weather is quite cold here today and the battery is original. i had the stators replaced about six months ago after one of the coils had burnt out.
i am thinking it is a weak battery but i have never heard that pitch coming from the starter motor before.
any thoughts from you guys if it is battery or something more substantial?

It may have been the soleniod squealing due low volts. For ease, completeness and being a whole lot cheaper I would check out that battery - it seems well overdue for replacement if it is the original - another Yuasa suit you sir, that one lasted long enough.

Thanks guys, got a new yuasa battery and it started fine. Sounds much beefier on startup now with the fresh battery.
