Brake pads - what works?
on: 21 November, 2021, 05:44:42 PM
Hi All,
Brake pads front and rear need replaced on my MK1 2006. What's the current wisdom?
Replace all with OEM or EBC double H pads etc?
Sintered or organic.........etc
What works best?               :015:

Hello Davy.
I always prefer to fit oem.

Is your bike an ABS model?

If so I have a full set of oem genuine Honda pads advertised for sale in the for sale board section.

Yes it's the ABS version MK1.
I live in N. Ireland - what's the cost of posting (and your best price)  :074:

I recommend SBS personally, I've found EBC are okay but much prefer the feel and bite of the SBS pads and having done somewhere around a quarter of a million miles on two wheels over the years I've had the opportunity to try a few brands!

That said, as long as you use at least the direct replacement spec from a good quality brand (EBC, SBS etc) then you should be absolutely fine and I believe the originals are sintered so stick with that as a minimum.

Some think that OEM = Honda but Honda don't make brake pads, nor a multitude of other generic items on our bikes, they just pay for their own packaging and for it to go through their supply chain.  For example, a common front wheel bearing size for Honda bikes is 6005-2RS, genuine Honda are >£20 each whereas you can buy NTN/SKF/Koyo for around £5 each.

My pads of choice are Brenta FT3081 standard GG disc pads

I'm getting 20,000 miles between replacements, great for touring and all year everyday wet and dry road use, kind to discs, available off the shelf at Wemoto currently priced at
£30.51+£3.67 p&p for three pairs.
