Worth mention here front and rear sprockets are made of different materials to compensate for the difference in work load, this typically results in the rear sprocket, the easier sprocket to eye ball, wearing at a quicker rate than the front sprocket.

As above always replace the chain and sprockets as a kit

As always from this forum, lots of good info. We all have different styles of riding and with me, around the 20-22k mark, the chain is stretched and there is always signs of wear on the rear sprocket and as Art says I would always change as a Kit.

Just renewed my chain and sprockets at 36,000 miles. They are the originals and were well within wear limits  :005: but, well, at 12+ years old the links must be into metal fatigue country and at my age I don't think I'll be riding long enough to need another set. 36,000 miles? Yes, I over lube my chain.
