Maybe its because I'm a Londoner...
...never understood why anyone would think it a good idea to mount an expensive smart phone to their motorcycle handlebars.

I agree, Art, though sometimes a phone is needed.
When I'm touring I use a Garmin 660 sat nav with all my daily routes downloaded. However, if this was stolen, my handlebar mounted phone with Google Maps would be essential.
