Fork seals
on: 30 June, 2020, 02:20:49 PM
Hi All,
I'm replacing my fork seals but notice that genuine Honda oil and dust seals are about £55 set. Has anyone fitted the cheaper versions , £17 - £20, mainly from e-bay ads. and are they OK? i.e they don't start leaking after 500 miles!

Honda Genuine seals are only rebranded from elsewhere and as far as I'm concerned a total rip off. Wemoto is one of the go to suppliers. As with all seals if you fit them with care and the stanchions, springs and bushes are all good they will not leak.

Clickity click Fork Seal Kit or if required you can get the full fork repair kit including bushes from Wemoto for less than £50.00

So finally sorted fork seals. Picked up on Sheds link and got the same set. The DUST seals are a different design but have to say, do look better quality than the Honda original.
2 x bottles of Castrol 10w from Halfords but hunted high and low for spare bit of PVC pipe for a seal driver. Had to buy a 3 meter length of 40mm from Wickes in the end but it's cheap stuff, only £2.54.

I got my pvc pipe from Screwfix, but thankfully they had shorter lengths than 3mtr available at the time.  :mfrlol:

Hi Guys,
I am from Aust, what do you mean by "spare bit of PVC pipe for a seal driver",
found below link to purchase the seals,
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Honda-CBF1000-Front-Fork-Bushes-Fork-Seals-Dust-Seals-Suspension-Kit-/142461078202
I found left fork seal leaking.
Can someone explain me what tools needed to replace oil and seals, bush kit.
I am getting help from a mate who is a car mechanic.
many thanks.

If you just need to replace the seals there's no need to buy the full kit, you may not need the bushes but you wouldn't know that until you've stripped the forks down. Love him or hate him Del Boy shows you how here, skip through to 16 mins if you just want to see the PVC pipe seal driver.

A 'proper' driver is stupidly expensive, so improvise with cheap plastic.

I can't possibly endorse that absolute liabilty Dangerman DelBollocks above, so try a Mackie video instead...21 mins in for the pipe...

If the OP is in fact ordering from the UK link given, to his country, Australia, I think I'd just order the whole lot too. Just in case on stripping the forks, I found out I did indeed need the other half of the kit that I hadn't ordered in the first place!
