Please can someone advise. My bike fell onto its left side and damaged the fairing.
I tried to repair and repaint but not at all happy with the result. Itís a Siena Red Candy and very itís very difficult to get the colour match right even with a decent repair.
Am fed up trying now and have decided to see if I can get a new one.
Can you buy them painted in final colour and lacquered. Anyone know where and roughly how much this will cost? All Honda dealers are closed in my area and they would charge an arm and leg anyway. Have had no luck on the internet so far.
Would really appreciate some suggestions.

Regards JT

I bought a new one a couple of years ago from Honda main dealer. Paint was a perfect match and decal in place. Not cheap though, l canít remember exactly but it was a bit over £200

Thank you for the reply(s) I just got in touch with the the dealer (Bill Smith) Chester.
He needed my VIN number to order now waiting for a quote.
There is one on eBay but it's tatty and nearly £100.

I am having one more go at it this week. I managed to rub down to the plastic without intending to as the scratches were quite deep so now it's going to need plastic primer then some high build primer and flattting and a full primer coat and base coat

I really wanted to just filled the scratches and leave the base coat intact but the colour coat is so  transparent you would see any repair. Too many coats to hide a repair and the colour goes darker. So it's a real t***.

Pearl Colours Metallics

Just for your information these pearl coats you can't just use a top coat after a repair it needs the silver metallic base coat to get anywhere near a match. The colour coat is very transparent so you must have the whole panel totally uniform and the base coat perfect before you apply the colour coat and it drys matt. Each colour coat makes it a little darker so you have to know when to stop and any rubbing down thins the colour coat and lightens the colour. Last job is the lacquer which is the easy part and gives gloss shine and depth. Easy to write hard to get right ! Got paint and advice from RS Paints On Line they specialise in motor bike paint. Hope this helps so body one day!!  👍

Just thinking out loud...............if the fairing is not broken in any way , it just needs paint.

There are many very good painters around and that would be a much cheaper than buying a new fairing.  Also if the rest of the bike isn't lovely and blemish free the new fairing could look " newer " than the rest of the bike. Paints and finishes do fade .

I have in the past tried touch up sticks from RS paints. The colour match is good but you will never replicate the original finish which tends to be a different primer than normal, a base coat and clear lacquer over the top.

Lastly , don't worry about decals/stickers, go to Image works, they are absolutely brilliant and a fraction of the original Honda/main dealers and they can make anything. They did decals for me for a super rare Aprilia and the match finish was absolutely spot on .

Good luck

Thanks Careca,
Wow thanks for the reply. Useful info. I tried to repair the scratches as the damage was minor but couldnít get a colour match and it looked like a cats arse. I took the fairing off in the end and rubbed the scratches down to the plastic and feathered it out to double the area. I then used plastic primer to seal the plastic in. Then a few coats of high build primer in the general area of the damage and flatted it and got the shape and curves perfectly right. If you spray direct onto plastic with base coat or ordinary primer the thinners in it reacts and swells the plastic. If you rub that out later it shrinks with time and you end up seeing the repair. So beware it must be sealed. I now have it in grey primmer all ready for the metallic silver base coat which is on its way from RS Paints.  The rest of the bike is immaculate so I had to go to these lengths. My conclusion in all this with these metallic/pearl paints you will always see a repair if you try to touch up the damage the only way to be sure of return to original colour and finish is respraying the whole panel. I hope I can pull the next stage off.
If itís not up to standard I will grasp the nettle and buy a new painted panel. I hate to give up on a problem so got to at least try.
Thanks again for your time Regards JT

This sounds like Andy's problems that led to the 'white swan' - the "candy" colour matching.

If it was mine (and there weren't any at a reasonable price - have you tried ? there may be some kicking about in Belgium) I'd seek out a local paint man and see if he fancies his chances on spraying a match.
Nowadays they can use a paint scanner (or the paint supplier does) to determine the source paints to get the (aged) match correct.  They are very good (normally) but are aware of candy issues.  I'd expect the need to do the whole thing (blending in won't work) so you may need that 'wings' transfer.  It may just match.
Only do it right - no bodging please.   Keeper of the failed stator list.   John.

Thanks for reply JM2 as my last post have the whole panel in grey primer now ready for the silver base coat. Am having a go at getting it right but only using spray cans from RS paints. The colour match is less critical as is the whole panel and if there is any colour fade it wonít be too noticeable as the fuel tank is covered with a red bagster cover. Also the depth of colour can be regulated a little by number or thickness of colour coat. I have spent £100 already on paint and materials so have to have a go and see if I can succeed to get it right. I have picked up a some knowledge and renewed some long lost skills on the way. 👍
