MKII, high-pitched sound activates when on standby
« on: 07 June, 2020, 02:49:15 PM »
Hey,

I have recently bought CBF 1000 FA, 2011.

It rides really nicely. One thing that worries me a bit is that when I stop for a longer time, engine is, of course, warm and if I stand with the engine on for a longer time, it seems like some fan or cooling system activates and it sounds like strange high-pitched sound. Today I got to record it here:

It goes away usually after ~1 minute.

Is this normal or should I visit some mechanic to check this?
Do you guys have the same with your CBFs FA?

I would appreciate your thoughts on the subject.

Let me clarify - I am worried that this high pitched sound is a result of some malfunction. Just not sure is it "normal" for the bike.
I would like to get your opinion do you guys have the same or there is something wrong and it is worth visiting mechanic to check this.

It sounds like the fan cutting in and out which is normal

The symptoms you describe are perfectly normal and the same for any vehicle that is fitted with an electric motor fan to assist the cooling system. The noise you hear is the electric fan coming on to cool the contents of the radiator. Prove it yourself - leave the engine on tickover and observe the stationary fan blades, the fan is immediately behind the radiator. Just watch the blades if you can't see them too clearly get a torch and shine some light in there, DON'T go poking your fingers or a screwdriver in there just watch the fan blades. After 3 minutes or so the fan motor will come on, you will see the fan blades rotating, you will hear the high pitch whine and realise it is all perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

Thanks a lot for the explanation. I was pretty sure it was some kind of cooling fan but was worried that the sound it makes is maybe unnatural due to some malfunction. That makes it clear!
