Just after we were allowed out again to ride our bikes for pleasure I was riding on the A20 in Kent and spotted a pothole ahead so I swerved to the left to miss it and then straight ahead was another one which I couldn't avoid . I was doing 47 in a 50mph limit when both wheels crashed into it so badly I thought I was going to come off the bike , luckily I somehow kept control of it and pulled into a layby to have a look at the wheels to see any damage. I checked the offside and everything looked ok so after I'd calmed down I rode home. The bike handling hadn't changed but I had developed a loud rattle from the top box. When I got home I took the top box off and noticed the two plastic lugs at the front had both been sheared off by the impact of the pothole on the back wheel. Also at home I also noticed both wheels had minor dents to the rim but only on the nearside.
I had two new tyres fitted yesterday and an MOT which the bike passed so maybe the damage isn't as bad as I thought. My dealer said Honda alloy wheels are very good quality and were pretty tough . I'll get the wheels straightened later in the year even though I've been told they're safe but I like things to be perfect.
I know I got away with it in a sense but it's still going to cost me a couple of hundred pounds to repair the damage.
I did go back to the potholes but they had been filled.
I'm usually pretty good at reading the road ahead but there we are, these things happen.
Stay safe
