Portugal Toll Roads

We are going to Portugal in two weeks time and unfortunately due to time constraints we will have to make use of the electronically tolled motorways on a couple of days.
I have registered a car for the Easytoll system successfully several times but there seems a distinct lack of instructions for a bike.
Do you for instance reverse the bike so the number plate is facing the camera?
If anyone has done this I would be grateful for advice.

Hi Maz,

I thought of backing the bike into the photo bay but it didn't work for me.  Maybe the ANPR thingy didn't like the square number plate.?  There was a service/fuel area adjacent to the registration point which had a Toll company office included but, being lunchtime, it was closed.     This was on the A25 - IP5 just over the border from Spain.
Gave up at this point and carried on to the hotel in Viseu where the very kind young lady on reception sorted it all out for us  over the phone.   It then worked fine for the rest of the time we were there for the odd, brief occasions we strayed onto a Toll road.
Back there myself next week so studiously trying to plan total avoidance .  Mind you if Boris gets his way we could probably just ignore it anyway..!! ??

So since that call she made, the camera's started to recognize your plate? Just wondering what exactly changed

Hi J-Man,
I understand there is a brief time period during which you can pay the toll charge, afterwards, by telephone. That is if you happen to use the toll road accidentally.  Or, you can set up an account, by telephone, chargeable directly to a credit card which is what the lady at the hotel arranged for us so our previous charge was taken accordingly.  My Portuguese language ability is embarrassingly awful, being restricted to obtaining food, beer, fuel, etc. so I was extremely grateful.
The number plate recognition system worked fine for the rest of the trip.  I believe this system is only for Non-Portuguese visitors and is limited to 28 days (I think !) after which you would have to make further applications.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I suspected backing the bike into the bay to face the camera may not work. It seems strange that on the signs directing you off the motorway into the Easytoll bay it has a symbol of a car and a bike and then appears to leave it up to you.
Since posting I have emailed the motorway people in Portugal with no success. Will just have to suck it and see when we get there.

Just to finish on this thread the Portuguese motorway people did come back to me today

Yes. The service EasyToll is valid for moto too but after get the ticket EasyToll, you should call us from the machine to indicate us the registration plate.

So looks like it can be done but involves a phone call.
