« on: 14 July, 2019, 08:47:04 PM »
:003:Hi all new to this forum , I have just bought a 2009 cbf1000 engine is quiet and smooth when you first start it up, when you have done about 20 miles the bike cuts out as soon as you shut the throttle off so coming upto a junction pull the clutch in to change down bike cuts out it will start straightaway but is very lumpy , anyone got any ideas please.

Any service history here? Has the motorcycle been standing for some time?

If I was a gambling man I'd wager on fuel system fault and since you don't mention any other symptoms such as FI light coming I'd narrow that down to contaminated fuel.

Does this only happen when the fuel tank is low on fuel?

Still sounding like fuel contamination to me but what do I know. Sometimes there just isn't a quick fix, remove the fuel tnak, drain the fuel tank, drain the fuel system, swirl the tank out with two or three of litres of fresh fuel and drain it again. Put 5 litres of fresh fuel and test that over 40 to 50 miles.

Fuel filter? That would be my next step.
Old enough to have seen it all, heard it all, done it all. Just can't remember it all.

Some things to start with that could be relatively easy to check?....

1- Sidestand switch "If the gearbox is in gear (neutral switch open) the side stand has to provide the path to ground so be in the up position (closed) with the clutch switch activated."

2- Neutral Switch
"It starts and runs perfectly with the side stand up (closed) and clutch activated (closed), but with the side stand down (open) it is forced to used the neutral switch as the path to ground and struggles to start"

3- DLC (Data Link Connector), described by Honda as being 'Natural' (= white) colour.
It's supposed to have a 'Dummy' connector in place, except when being used for connection to diagnostics equipment and has wiring from ignition + and shares a ground (-) line with the Side Stand and Neutral switches.
