HISS Keys
on: 05 June, 2019, 04:59:37 PM
I'm thinking of buying a CBF 1000 this weekend.
Is there a master key for the HISS system??(like Yamaha's red key? How many keys did they come with when new?
Any pointers on what to look for in particular would be useful.,.......weak spots etc

Cheers Shaun

From new comes with two keys and a key number tag.

Points to look out for are as with any other second hand motorcycle. There's much hype on here regarding MKI stator failure and some have even replaced perfectly serviceable stators in blind panic.

If there is no tag will that be an issue in the future?

The tag just has the key code number on it which should also be in the owners documentation somewhere.

Hello all . Does anyone know where to find the ignition key number AND ANY CHIP/FOB information, in the bike documentation, please. I have misplaced my one and only key' complete with it's chip for my CBF 1000, 2006 MK1 BIKE.

I had a spare key made which fits my ignition , but it will not start the engine, as I have no chip in my spare key. Realise it should have been done as soon as I bought a new key. And not wait for the sunny weaTHER TO APPEAR. !!

Thanks all , in anticipation . Dave

I'm not going to be much help here other than to explain how it works.

The key number refers to the cut of the key, not the transponder code which is specific to each individual key's transponder. There is a receiver ring around the ignition switch which reads the key's transponder code and sends it to the ECM, if that code matches one of the codes stored in the ECM's flash memory the ECM turns off the immobiliser and all systems are go. If you have a transponder key that has its code stored in the ECM's flash memory up to three additional keys can be coded into the ECM as explained here

When all keys have been lost the Honda workshop procedure is to fit a new ECM and cut a new transponder key which can then be paired together. This is simple done by turning the ignition on and waiting a few seconds while the HISS system does its stuff, when the HISS light flashes four times the new key is registered with the new ECM. What I don't understand is why do you need a new ECM and a new key for this procedure to work? Surely there must be some way to clear the original ECM's memory of key registrations, then turn the ignition ON with any transponder key and wait for the HISS system to do its stuff.

Seems as if its not possible to clear the ECU memory of registered keys without a registered key because of the HISS security.

Maybe of interest there's an ECU, key and lock set on eBay for 119.99 + 12.99 postage.

Its advertised as a 2011 CBF1000 but its shown in the video as an SC58 (2006-2009) and the part number (38770-MFA-D03) matches Honda's parts list for the SC58
