Centre Stand - Mk1 different to Mk2?
« on: 26 March, 2019, 01:01:41 PM »
Hi all

I have a Mk1 and recently bought a used centre stand from Fleabay

Got the silencers off and it fitted fine (a struggle to get the springs on though!!) - but when I put the left hand silencer back on, it touches the foot part of the stand and it doesn't flip up enough.

Could it be that I have bought a MK11 stand - does anyone know if they are similar but different?

Thanks

Is the stand hitting the silencer, or the heat shield on the silencer?

I have a MK1 with a centre stand fitted, and the heat shield on the left hand silencer has a “cut out”  so that the stand doesn’t foul it. You might have the right stand, but may also need the correct heat shield.

If needed I could upload a photograph of mine if it would help.

Try removing your heat shield first and see if the stand retracts correctly without it fitted.
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for coming back to me  - it looks like I have the Mk1 stand, but without the cut out heat shield.

I can't see one for sale on Ebay, so don't know what to do now!! It won't look very nice if I remove the shield completely.

I could possibly try and do my own cut out.

Cheers

If your looking for one second hand they're as rare as hens teeth because most breakers part with the shields still attached to the exhaust. Although they do turn up from time to time from rear end shunts. Do it old school and ring round a few motorcycle breakers near you.

Plenty of left hand side exhausts with the correct shield come up for sale on e bay. You could even get a cheap damaged one, as you only want the shield, it doesn’t matter the condition of the silencer.
