I'm not going to mention the 'B' word, and I'm not trying to spark a political debate.  :110:

I've just read an article saying that if travelling in Europe after 29th March 2019, we may require an Insurance Green Card (remember them?) and an International Driving Permit.

This isn't a requirement, at this time, but the IDP can only be obtained from The Post Office (£5.50 each) and should be applied for at least a month before travelling. I think there are three IDP's (depending on which countries you are visiting), what I do know is if travelling to Spain, France and Liechtenstein you'll need all three as they are signed up to different conventions.  :187:

Green Cards used to be free from your insurer, you only had to ask for one......will it still be free nowadays?

I'm hoping these wouldn't be required, but fore warned is fore armed.  :028:

It's that uncertainty that made me cancel a week in Ireland planned for later this year. Until things settle, I'll be staying in the UK.

I Just consider myself lucky that some of Europes finest biking roads are right on my doorstep.

It would take a lot to stop us having our European trip. I was just pointing out we may need another piece of paper or two to travel.

I’ve been stock piling my Euros for a while as I need them all year round (son and his family live on Cyprus).

I’ve got a tour of Ireland and Scotland all planned, but the better weather ‘down south’ is always the big draw so that’s why we’re doing Spain for the 4th year running. :028:

Oh I don't disagree, Spain is fantastic for bikes and like you have been several times.

The upheaval caused by everything won't stop me visiting Europe again. I just think I'll let the dust settle this year, let the money markets balance out and suss out what is expected and/or needed post Brexit.

Not sure what will happen but you don't need either a green card or international driving permit for Switzerland and they are not in the EU.

getting there without going through a country that might need one will be interesting. did hear tat some countries have already said they will not require IDL hope that is correct but not the end of the world if not

At the end of the 1970’s, I used to travel from Germany, through Holland, Belgium and into France without a passport.

All I had was my Army ID card and an Army form, issued by our Chief Clerk, which entitled me to travel from my unit to home and return.

I had insurance for my car, with a free Green Card (Green piece of paper), and that was it.

I’ve now got a passport, which I’m more than happy to produce at borders. :028:
