I am having to replace my 1999 CB500 due to Ulez and was about to buy a CBF1000 A-7 (2007) only to find it is also caught. Further investigation has lead me to figure out that A-8's and later are OK but A-7's and A-6's aren't. Would I be right in thinking that there is no specification difference (with regard to emissions anyway) between these models? I found the post above that explains it all. So....do I ask the existing owner to do all this OR buy it and do it myself with the risk TFL kick it back? The original posting says Tfl should then update the compliance database, which suggests itís possible they might not?  I was wondering if anyone had done this successfully with bike of this age. Any insights much appreciated.

Make the enquiry to Honda and TfL as per first post and TfL will respond. I used the word 'should' because TfL are yet to update the database. I have an email from TfL confirming the registration number of my 2006 CBF 1000 A6 and that it...

TfL

meets the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) emissions standards. This means you will not need to pay an ULEZ charge to travel in the zone, from 8 April 2019.

The vehicle compliance database will be updated to reflect the correct details of your vehicle, before the scheme commences.

So, I am still alittle bit miffed about this whole BS. As I understand from the posts above, an A6 is ok.....but an A7 Not???!!!!!

I really don't give a damm as I do not ride into London as such.....but I do have an A7 VFR800FI in the UK which I use to tour around the UK and Europe and Eastern Europe etc....So Exactly what does it mean???? :087: :087: :087: :087: :087: To me, it is the same as Brexit all over again!!!!!.......no one can give you an actual/factual answer!!!!

Why does life/biking has to be so confusing?
I might be mad or even slightly insane....but I LOVE my CBF1000GT

No BS here you just need to keep up which is probably not so easy if you're not a Londoner or haven't been following the whole ULEZ thing. Its fairly simple once you've grasped the concept of the re-invented wheel standards applied by TfL. What's what here is all motorcycles will need to meet Euro 3 emissions standards or pay the charge. The ULEZ charge will be enforced based on the declared emissions of the vehicle rather than the age. Hence the need to obtain the Certificate of Conformity from the manufacturer and send a copy together with a copy of the motorcycles V5 to TfL as proof that the motorcycle engine meets the Euro 3 standard.

As far as the Honda model range is concerned the 2006 CBF 1000's, Deauvilles, CBR1000RR's, Silver Wing 400's and all the July 2007 and later models manufactured for or sold in the EU market meet the Euro 3 standard and therefore also meet the TfL ULEZ standard.

The actual factual answer you're looking for is that if your A7 VFR800FI meets Euro 3 standards, and it certainly will if registered with DVLA before July 2007, it also meets the TfL ULEZ standard. If it was registered with DVLA proior to July 2007 it shouldn't be too difficult for you to research whether or not its Euro 3 compliant.

Thank you Art for he explanation.I guess I was having a little tongue in cheek when I posted last. Yes I am aware and have followed up to a point. Normally when in the UK, I reside in Chiswick and normally ride out from there in all other directions....bar going towards London. My concern in regards to this issue is how it might/will affect me when doing my annual touring across Europe.

I however must say that I am still a little confused (it is summer here and the weather is already scrambling my brains 30deg+ today) and here lies my confusion

There appears to be a little contradiction here. Both situations refers to PRIOR July 2007  and BEFORE July 2007. I think that the first part of that statement should read If it is registered with the DVLA After July 2007....  Am I missing something?

On another point, surely if a CBF1000 built in 2007 would be built to the same emissions level as a VFR built during the same period....you would like to think????

And say you do have a non compliant bike......what is the fee/cost to ride into the restricted zone? It will make it interesting planning and budgeting a trip across different countries and cities....as no doubt each will have its own levy.

As I understand it only the 2006 CBF 1000's, Deauvilles, CBR1000RR's, Silver Wing 400's meet Euro 3 emission standards all other 2006 Honda models were Euro 2. All new motorcycles registered with DVLA after July 2007 were required to meet the Euro 3 standard.

Well spotted on the typo which should read

At present the proposed fixed penalty for non-compliant vehicles is £12.50 per day!

Certainly not cheap if you have to ride into London a few times a week!!!!  Thankfully does not apply to me.I believe that France has/planned to introduced a similar concept....but not sure if that has eventuated. Not planning any trip before May/June next year....might need spend a little to do some research on that subject before then.

Thanks for your help on this. I have reluctantly decided not to buy a cbf1000 now because I can't help thinking Ulez has nothing to do with air quality in London (which has been improving for decades anyway) and is actually a number plate tax, plain and simple. Why else would they not classify vehicles on their actual emissions and instead just use their age? The Mayor and the London Boroughs just seem to be viciously anti car/bike on principle. How long will it be before itís changed to euro 4 or they start sending fines out even if the steps to register are followed but they just donít change it and then claim itís the database, not the emissions that matters? If I already had one, Iíd be manning the barricades alongside other affected owners, but buying one knowing all this, doesnít make much sense. Shame, as the first generation CBF1000 is such a nice bike. Living outside London and riding in, I canít even vote on it all either.

Mine is a 2007 A7 and is exempt, I just checked.
But it was registered on a 57 plate, in September 2007.
I guess it depends on the date of registration...even if the bike is the identical year.

Its whether the motorcycle is Euro 3 compliant or not. If registered before July 2007 TfL places the onus on proving compliance on the owner. It really is that simple, no CBF1000's will be liable for the ULEZ charges, you just need to jump through the TfL loops one time if registered with DVLA before July 2007.
