That was 5 years ago, things change so do the requirements for an awareness course. The current deal for a fixed penalty SP30 speeding offence, that is speeding up to 30 mph over the posted speed limit, is a £100 fine and 3 penalty points. As far as I know if it is your first driving offence within the past 3 years and your speed was no more than 10% +9 mph over the posted limit the Police have the option to recommend you for an awareness course. it's an option not a given. If the Police see your speeding as excessive expect the £100, 3 point FPN or worse an audience in front of the Magistrates where the penalties can increase to a maximum of a £2,500 fine plus 6 penalty points and disqualification from driving.
