mk1 2006 Top box replacement
« on: 20 September, 2018, 04:11:57 PM »
The hinge on my Honda Top Box gave way..  Tried to repair but NO GLUE EVER! worked.. Must be a weird ABS plastic...

Anyway, does anyone know;

Firstly - what model of topbox is a direct replacement for the OEM item?

Second  - what other brand Top Box's will work straight off the bat with the standard Honda plate that is already attached... (if any!)

OR....

Third - if Option two isn't possible, can you buy another brand of top plate, which in turn attaches to the Honda rack, and then allows you to use that plate and box?  If so, what plates fit the standard Honda plate?

There are more other brand Top Boxes coming up on Ebay for sale and cheaper than Honda ones... ...

Is it the same box as this?

If you are handy with a few tools, you could get yourself some bog standard butt hinges for less than a tenner and fabricate a repair with nuts & bolts or rivets such as these guys have done. You'll need to adapt to suit your situation, but you'll get the general idea.

Hi, thanks for reply. It's this same box  (if it were in silver!)... The one in your link is probably older i think...

If it were possible to get a mounting plate(and box) that mounts ON TOP of the existing OEM mount, would be perfect (so that i can swap out at a later date to another bike).. no idea if this is a fantasy! That's why I'm here asking... :)

Have you tried this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plastex-Standard-Kit-Plastic-Acrylic/dp/B0013K4V10/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1537557590&sr=8-13&keywords=plastic+repair+kit

I've used it several times on different plastics and it's worked great.

Pricey for a single repair, but once you have it the rest are sort of free

OK ,the hinge isn't flush on my top box so that ain't gonna work. Also the glue is almost the same price as a 2nd hand box... BUT I have discovered you can buy the lid separately!

However does anyone know (or who would know) if there is a difference between Top Box codes, 08L55-KTF-811R5 of which there seems to be a few on Ebay, and my code which is 08L55-KTF-8000...

Are the last 4 digits important to the fitting or are they a colour code or something. The photo on eBay for the first lid I mentioned here, looks identical to my lid (except for the differing 4 digits)…..
