CBF1000/600/500 common parts?
« on: 27 August, 2018, 04:15:49 PM »
Hi,

I know that the CBF1000,600 and 500 models all look very similar but are there many "common" parts between the models? :084:

thanks

Surely some one else must have raised the question?

Yes but don't ask me what !    :001:

It's not unusual for any vehicle (bike or car for that matter) to share common components these days.

true enough,

I don't know of any motorcycle manufacturer that has 3 bikes like the CBF models that look almost identical?

Yamaha have the MT range of bikes but I don't think any of them are modular in any way  :027:

Part number on my MK2 pillion seat is the same number stamped on my wife’s CBF600SA. Useless piece of info for you, but an example of shared parts.

I also think our top box racks are the same as we’ve got the same top boxes.  :028:

These bikes aren't "modular", but they are 'ondas and share many parts.
Phil has reminded the use of the part number/catalogs - that will show if the part is truly the same or not.
Of course it could be the biffer is the one that is made out of the bin boxes !

The biggest catchya is likely to be the MkI or MkII comparison with other bike parts.

The whole braking system on my bike is (it seems, but have not been bothered the check numbers) identical as a few others (including my previous bike, which again was partly derived from others still). Sometimes you'd find a single lever identical to another ! (The newer cb1000rr can use a biffer clutch lever but not it's brake).

For instance, I always look for oil filters by part numbers (inc. the old ones) as you never never know who has what (and I know that MCJ505 is current and a bike claiming MFJD01 will be supplied with a 505) and often folk make mistakes too.
Not that I've seen much in the way of price differences - my car on the other hand, always look for the lowest common denominator.
Only do it right - no bodging please.   Keeper of the failed stator list.   John.

Yes, but I've not seen a 'side by side' list of Honda Part numbers showing which bike(s) share which, but, as far as I know, the quickest way to find out, one part at a time is to look at the web pages at link below.
https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/en/honda-parts/2006-cbf1000a-motorcycles (you can go back a step and choose a specific year and version.)
Then when you select (click on) an individual Part No. there will be a new page opened which lists which models it was/is used on.
