gear indicator

I have a cheaper IDEA plug for about 2 years from China, about £30 off Ebay, from China,. Works well. Red is good for all but the brightest sun over your shoulder. Looks exactly like the Glpro. Probably may be made in same factory! Hardest part for me was locating the Datalink plg under the tank. Someone in the factory had unhelpfully disguised it by putting black tape round it.

I have bought this and I can not get the setup to complete.

I switch on ignition and see it count down from 6 to 1 and when L starts flashing I start the engine.

I then see a flashing F instead of a flashing 1 and can proceed no further. I have tried the reset procedure and disconnected the bike battery for a couple of hours.

You have to calibrate it. Put the bike on its stand, start the engine and work through the gears with the engine running. Cannot remember exactly as it was 2 years ago when I fitted it. Detail should be in instructions.

instructions say after seeing the flashing L you see flashing 1 and put into gear 1

After flashing L I see flashing F

Sorry cannot help. Could try disconnecting and connecting up again. I remember it was a bit of a faff to calibrate as there is delay

F means the gear indicator isn't reading a signal from the ecu.
Have you checked the plug & wires?
Any bent, dirty? Plug & socket not making true connection?

i have checked the connector, it's OK, I've only had this a few days.

Am i correct in using the red connector under the riders seat for the mk1 cbf?

I have a mk 2, with is under the tank. I believe the mk 1 data link is under the seat. More sensible position. Maybe the unit is duff.

Yes, you are correct.

Just checking, have you done the reset procedure, cutting off power 6 times, with kill switch in 'off' position? If not, try that too.

Otherwise, there's not much to these things, a live wire, an earth wire, and a sensor wire.
If all the wires & connectors are definitely sound, no bent pins etc, I'd suspect you may have a faulty gear indicator.
I'd contact the seller on ebay and ask them to send you another one.
