gear indicator

just looking advice, looking to put a gear indicator on my bike, there are various on the market ranging in price. I have been advised by some  friends that the GIpro is the one to go for, others say the cheaper versions are just as good. Can anyone offer any advice on either GIpro or the cheaper versions.

I've the cheaper one, and it works as it should, once you plug it into the correct plug  unlike me

thanks for the reply, by chance do you know the make of your gear indicator, all the cheaper indicators don't come with ecu plug attached.

the second one doesn't have a plug on the end. It will be more trouble than its worth.

The plug isn't on the end already fitted for you? 

Oh no, what a catastrophe. I guess that means any buyer will have to fit the wires into the plug themselves.

As they say, here's one we fitted earlier to a MK1. A cheap one, as in the ebay link I posted.
(Which has been working fine for knocking on 3 years now. Worth every penny).

Check the photos out. The gear indicator plug (white) only fits onto the ecu socket (red) one way, so you can't go wrong there.

Wiring, it was as simple as red=live, black=ground, yellow=ecu sensor.

The connectors feed through the plug holes and click into place, then just slide the rubber bungs up behind them.
Again, the connectors only fit one way into the plug, so if you're forcing them or having great difficulty then something is not right.

If you do balls that up and miswire, don't panic, a very small screwdriver, or similar implement, can be used to push the plug securing tabs in while you remove the wire/s and refit.

Looking at ordering a gear indicator for my 2017 MKII.  Can anyone advise how difficult these are to fit?  Do I need to remove any fairing and/or tank?

Also, how difficult is it to access where it needs to be connected.

Have looked at other posts on here and going to order one from China (seems to be as good as any)

If you get one which plugs into the diagnostics port, then it's easy. The plug sits under the RH side of the tank near the rear. If you remove the side panel you can see it just inder the tank.

Getting at it is a bit of an art - there's a bracket you swing out of the way and you can get to it.

No need to remove tank or fairing.
