CIA insurance. (Once upon a time used to be specifically Honda Insurance.) They've been reliably quoting just over the £100 mark for me for years now. It's crept up to £130 this year though. It includes pillion, European cover and there's a £250 excess. The only thing I knock off is commuting, seeing as I'm retired and I've got a full no claims discount. Can't really complain.

They just hope you'll not bother reading, or forget about, the renewal letter, or just plainly can't be bothered to move away from them. You get absolutely nowt for being 'loyal'. Shop around.

So this year I've gone to Devitt, who came in at 100 quid fully comp.

See what happens come next years renewal date!  :084:

Here we are, renewal time coming up again, so what happened?  :084:
Devitt sent the obligatory renewal letter, and the premium has gone up to £162.00.
    A 62% increase?!  :005:  :211:

    So begins the annual game.

Straight onto MCN compare website for some quotes, with Bennetts & Hastings being the cheapest for me, both coming in at roughly £100. Devitts own quote on MCN came in at £111.33
(All 3 with the same approximate cover criterion, give or take a couple of quid).

I rang Devitt to ask why my premium as a 'valued customer' had gone up £62, and why their own quotation on MCN as a perceived new customer was some £50 cheaper than my 'valued customer' renewal letter. The chap on the phone said he'd put me through to the customer retention team to see if they could match it. I said don't bother, I'm going to renew with someone else, which is what I've done.

So, as expected, nowt has changed. Always shop around.  :800:

You get nothing for being loyal - except your eyes ripped out.  :025:

Don't give up on the Annual Game if your getting unreasonable pricing hikes. I changed insurance companies every year via Go Compare and then I moved out of London and haven't looked back. Introduced to Just Motorcycle Insurance (a Markerstudy Policy) via Go Compare in 2014 with a very reasonable £82.54 annual premium which has steadily risen over the last 5 years to a staggering £91.60.

    Happy Days

I've just remembered, Devitt also wanted a £15.00 'renewal fee' - for what exactly?! Changing the date on an electronic document? What a joke.
They're all the same though, they rely on your apathy, or disinterest, to raid your wallet - if you let them  :117:

I can't say I'd heard of JMI, but I'll be checking them out along with others when I play the game next year.  :068:

By chance I also insure my car with Just Motor Insurance (policies from Ageas and Rias) introduced to me via Go Compare.

    My renewal come last month.......£180!

I shopped around, told them I could get it far less, eventually agreeing to stay with them (IAM Surety via Cornmarket) for £109!  :028:

Bennetts wanted around £165 for me this year for the cbf1000. 9years plus NCD in my 60s bike kept in garage so I went back to Carole Nash at £104. Bennets wouldn't match this just offered me £25 discount. Like many here I shop around every year and swap around regularly. Pete

I would always shop around, but even with the cheapest quote it is sometimes worth phoning. A few years ago for the car i phoned my insurers at renewal and said to them that their quote was very competitive but the next cheapest were offering a free "real radio" Ice scraper. They took £10 of my renewal quote.

I remember Real Radio (merged with Heart a few years ago), but maybe you should have took the ice scraper, it may be worth a fortune now!  :156:  :008:

    Hi All

Its renewal time I used Hastings last year and for Social domestic and pleasure, not garaged or rather in car port it was £150 now its £200 so 1/3 increase.  Gave them a ring and the man thought it odd so checked it

Yes that is correct....... :005:..... so its phone around time............WHY motorbikes my car insurance does not need to change company ever couple years maybe 4 years  so why are motorbike underwriters always such a pain in the arse :232:

OK I will be 70 in 9 months and never done any of the IAM etc............ It can be garaged now as I have passed my Caterham 7 on to my son after 30 years .....  why I am bigger now err a tad ......OK a lot..........and it was always a tight fit :164:
