Buxton, any good meeting points ?
on: 18 May, 2018, 11:58:28 AM
Can anyone recommend somewhere to meet up with a fellow biker near Buxton (±10 or so miles).

Somewhere that'll also have a place dry and warm should the weather turn to s*** en route.
Half-decent food/snacks (dare I add decent coffee without appearing a complete wuss) and more importantly bike friendly car park and staff.
Any other decade I'd be straight up to the Cat   :110:

I spent my summer holidays in Buxton last year, on a Sunday get your self to Matlock Bath. You will find it FULL of bikes. Think ever bike in a 500 mile radius goes there.

Agreed Matlock Bath is the place to be, Kostas chippy has seats outside where you can watch the world ride past  :020:

On the road to Ashbourne in Buxton, there is a big public car park by a roundabout on Bridge St. There’s a decent pub (the Railway) just up the road.

Matlock gets far too crowded (in my opinion) and I normally avoid it like the plague

Talk about not being in tune with the question ...
A fellow biker being an old (can I write that?) friend, not some random.

Thanks Alan,  but I've always found Buxton itself rather congested so looking for somewhere a little out (Buxton is simply halfway between us). Noted for future reference, but so far settled on either wingkleman (I fancy that Leek road to ride) or the Bull on the 515 - meet postpond just for now.

Don't 'dis' Matlock Bath - spent our last dirty weekend aniversary there (her choice) - no bikes involved.

Good morning JM2,
The Leek - Buxton road is a great ride.   I think the pub you're thing of is "The Winking Man" (careful how you type/say it !)

Called around  "The Bull i' th'Thorn" on the A515 a couple of weeks ago but sadly it was closed and looked as though it had been for a while. (tumbleweed on the car park !)  Plenty of other pubs and cafes in the area though.

The Yondermann Cafe, on the A623, by Wardlow is usually pretty good and obviously biker friendly.
Anyway, have a great day,

Cheers,
Paul.

Thanks for this.
The Yondermann looks a good bet.
- and the heads up re the Bull (it was quite last time I used it) and was one or two options at the time.
