I would check the cable loom, especially up at the headstock  were it moves . It could be worn through and earthing somewhere. I have came across this in years gone by  although not on the biffer. Worth a try.

More symptoms:
Bike in gear, engine off, both wires disconnected from clutch switch.
So there is no vibration. Light is flickering with varying intensities but not full intensity. Goes full green when shifted into neutral.

So the suggestion of a short in the harness makes sense. Thanks. Will try a volt meter test.

Sidestand wires disconnected. Bike in gear. Light ON with about 90% intensity. Occasional flicker.

Diode removed. Still flickers

The short was in the Acumen. I can count to 6 so I removed it. Problem solved. All I have to do now is reassemble everything without forgetting any parts/bolts...
